If you've received a Final Peace USB drive, or you've been told you're a key holder, this page explains everything you need to know — including what to do if it's a medical emergency, not a funeral.

Medical emergency? Use Emergency Access.

If your loved one is in the hospital and you have your key alone, you can still unlock their medical directives, insurance card, primary doctor, and bill-paying accounts. You don't have to wait for the other key holder to arrive. After unlocking, choose "Medical Emergency" mode.

If You've Received a USB Drive

Someone who cared about you took the time to organize important information to help you during a difficult time. Here's how to access it:

    Find Your Key Pattern

    You should have a 6-word pattern like "ALPHA-BRAVO-CHARLIE-DELTA-ECHO-FOXTROT" written on a card or told to you. This is your access key.

    Find the Other Key Holder

    Standard estate access requires two people with different patterns. Contact the other person who was given a key pattern. (Skip this step if it's a medical emergency — see Emergency Access below.)

    Plug In the USB Drive

    Insert the drive into any Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. Double-click the file named Double_Click_This_To_Start_Final_Peace.html and open it with Chrome, Edge, or Brave. (Safari and Firefox can't read USB drives directly — if one of them opens, the screen will explain how to switch.)

    Choose Your Mode, Then Enter Patterns

    You'll be asked whether you're here for a Medical Emergency or to Settle the Estate. Pick the right one, then both key holders click their 6 words from the military alphabet, in order. The Heir's First Hour Script (printed and included with the kit) walks you through this aloud.

What You'll Find Inside

Your loved one may have documented any or all of the following:

Medical directives, DNR preferences, and Healthcare POA
Passwords and access codes (phone PINs, email, safes, alarms)
Financial accounts (banks, investments, retirement, debts)
Insurance policy details and claim contacts
Important contacts (attorney, accountant, doctors)
Legal document locations (will, trust, power of attorney)
Home service providers (plumber, electrician, HVAC)
Digital legacy: Facebook, email, cloud storage instructions
People to Notify list — exportable as a CSV spreadsheet
Pet care: vet, medications, who should take them
Personal messages and a permission statement ("It's OK to let go of my things")
Funeral wishes, obituary draft, celebration of life notes

Troubleshooting

I don't have my key pattern
Check for a printed card that came with the USB drive, or look for a note in the person's important papers. The pattern might also be in their safe deposit box or with their attorney. If you're the designated heir, the pattern may have been given to you verbally.
I can't find the other key holder
Check with family members, the person's attorney, or close friends. The owner would have chosen two trusted people. If one key holder is unreachable, there may be a backup contact documented with the pattern.
The drive isn't opening
Double-click the file named Double_Click_This_To_Start_Final_Peace.html on the USB drive. Final Peace works in Chrome, Edge, and Brave — not Safari or Firefox, which can't read USB drives directly. If the wrong browser opens it, right-click the file and choose 'Open With' to pick Chrome or Edge (on Windows, Edge is already installed). If it still doesn't work, try a different computer.
I entered my pattern but nothing happened
Both key holders must enter their patterns before access is granted. Make sure the other person has entered their complete pattern. Check that all words are spelled correctly — the system uses NATO phonetic alphabet words like ALPHA, BRAVO, CHARLIE.
I'm locked out after failed attempts
For security, Final Peace locks access after 4 failed attempts for 1 hour. Wait the lockout period and try again, making sure you have the correct patterns.
Can I access the drive alone?
The standard heir access requires two people for security. However, if the owner set up a "Trusted Key" for a spouse or designated individual, that person can access the drive alone with their single key pattern.

Three Ways to Access the Drive

Depending on what your loved one set up, you may have one of three kinds of access. The mode you choose at unlock determines what you see.

Standard Heir Access

  • • Requires two key holders together
  • • Each has a different 6-word pattern
  • • Full access to settle the estate
  • • Maximum security

Emergency Access

  • • Either key holder, alone
  • • For medical emergencies and bill-paying
  • • Cryptographically separate — only sees emergency info
  • • Owner must enable this in advance

Trusted Key

  • • Single-person access
  • • Typically a spouse or adult child
  • • Read-only, revocable by the owner
  • • Exists alongside heir access
